Credit cards for teens
Hate the idea of your teenager carring cash to school, even when you give it to them to buy something for you? You can give them a credit card instead.
But I'm not sure if my teen can handle a credit card!
Well you do have a number of choices. First you could co-sign for a student credit card. It would have a very low credit limit, no perks like cash back or air miles, but also has no annual fee. Then you could monitor their spending, and the low credit limit (you could ask for $100 limit), you know they can't get into too much trouble.
Another option is a pre-paid credit card. That way your teen cannot use the card to go in debt. Your teen can use it like a credit card, and when it runs out of money, you or your teen can top it up. For more details read up on the Visa Buxx program.
